Hi everyone! It’s week 3 of blogging and many of you are doing awesome at it, keep it up! I promise it’s an amazing skill to have and excellent resume piece. This week look out for emails from me about how to improve your blog. Remember that they are in no way criticisms-just ways to work on your blogs.
For those who haven’t been blogging consistently, you will be getting an email from me. Remember that blogging is -required- and I won’t stop bothering you until you do it.
Many of you follow me on my twitter! If you don’t already, please do. It’s extremely handy if you’re going to be late on your blog and want me to know. I also post updates about blogging.
Last week’s assignment was to create your About Me page. Thank you to those that did! For those who did not, I will be emailing you.
This Week’s Assignment: Fine tune your layout. Many of you have played with the Widgets and changed your theme on your blog, but most of you have utilized it. Please go to your Widgets (left hand, under ‘Appearance’) and click and drag the items you want. I suggest adding a Twitter app if you have a Twitter, a link to any other sites you maintain (such as Flickr), a picture of yourself (if you want), and even a blurb about you or your blog on the side for readers to see. Categories, an archive, top posts, and a Subscribe option are all recommended.
If you have any questions about particular widgets or other things, email or Twitter at me and I’ll help you: Tegancomma@gmail.com

Hi everyone! Sorry for the late update, but when I woke up about half the blogs weren’t even updated so I twittered that everyone has till 6pm to get their blogs up. If you didn’t get one up in time, please make sure you have 1 or 2 ready by next Sunday.
Assignment: Everyone’s assignment this week is to create their ‘About Me’ page. This is really easy! Go into your blog’s dashboard, and on the left side under ‘Pages’ go to ‘Edit’. The About page should already be there, but isn’t filled out. Please fill it out with anything you want, as long as it includes:
-Your name (doesn’t have to have your last)
-A little about yourself
-What your blog is about (do not leave this out!!)
Some other things you could include would be your e-mail, editor’s position, etc. Be sure to have fun with it and click ’save’ when you’re done so it shows up!
Due By: Next Sunday!

Hello Puma Press Bloggers!
It’s a new semester, which means writing a bunch of stuff. Let’s go over the whens, and the whats of blogging:
WHEN:
Editors are required to blog at least once a week, with the deadline being noon on Sunday. If you miss the deadline, don’t wait until next week. Write an extra entry, even if its short. I understand you’re all busy, but please try!
WHAT:
What to blog about? The answer is:
-Current events, short articles, happenings, people of interest-basically anything you would write for the regular paper.
-Something that is relevant to your blog theme. Can’t think of anything? Google for some inspiration.
-Something you are already writing for the paper. Not the exact article, but a snippet linking to it, or a ’side bar’ that goes along with the article. Only do this if you are extremely strapped for time, please.
Do not blog about…
-Anything unrelated to your blog theme. Falling into the habit of posting ‘whatever’ will only make you lazy with your writing. Put in some effort, please.
-What isn’t yours. This means, don’t copy and paste a New York Times piece into your blog and then add a few comments like ‘I agree’. Take the time to write out something that correlates with whatever you are posting (if you are referencing a news or opinion article).
-Your personal life stories unless they are relevant. Don’t blog about the sweet keg party you went to this weekend. Blog about how to adjust to college life, how to drink responsibly, or an opinion piece on how partying in college can change your social life. You can tie your personal stories into these entries without being boring or irrelevant.
Don’t forget to read this post, to see what is coming this year for Puma Press blogging.
Check back every week for highlights from our blogs, new prompts, and blogging help.
If you need help with blogging, setting up an account, or technical WordPress issues, please email me at Tegancomma@gmail.com.
Hello Puma Press bloggers! I hope you’re all ready to write bunches. Let’s go over the blogging basics that are required, and what is on the webpage to help you.
Required:
Editors (except graphic editors) are required to maintain a blog throughout the semester. Blog entries are required at least once a week, the deadline being Sunday at noon. Entries should reflect your blog’s theme, and should adhere to a journalistic style of writing. There is lots of freedom in this, as blogging is more focused on the writer and not the news. Opinion pieces, humor, commentary, and how-to’s are all acceptable as long as they are well written and professional.
Not Required, But Recommended:
Experimenting with different writing styles, playing with images and videos, branching off into topics you don’t normally write about, and online blog promotion. All of this is beneficial to learning online writing, but it’s not required.
Helpful Stuff:
- Inspiration. A list of blogs to browse through if you are feeling unmotivated.
- Promotion and Advertising, a handy guide to teaching you to make your blog get more page hits immediately.
- Prompts, in case you can’t think of what to write about.
I have also created the How-To and Guides section for your questions about blogging. I am unsure where everyone is at in their knowledge of blogging and WordPress, so please leave a comment or email me anything you’d like to know!
And Most Importantly: Don’t let this feel like a job and don’t get stressed out over this. Blogging should be fun, useful, and something you enjoy doing. If you hate it, find a way to make it more appealing. You have very few restrictions, so have fun.
Hello Puma Press Bloggers! Because of the stress of the holidays, I understand blogging can be difficult. I will still be updating the site for those who want to keep blogging over the break though. Be sure to check out the previous post to see what new features have been added to the website. And don’t forget to check out the inspiration and prompts section if you don’t know what to blog about!

Hi everyone. I have revamped the Puma Press blogging website to include many new features. This includes:
- Inspiration. A list of blogs to browse through if you are feeling unmotivated.
- Promotion and Advertising, a handy guide to teaching you to make your blog get more page hits immediately.
- Prompts, in case you can’t think of what to write about.
- Why Blog? In case you feel like blogging is a waste of time.
I have also created the How-To and Guides section for your questions about blogging. I am unsure where everyone is at in their knowledge of blogging and WordPress, so please leave a comment or email me anything you’d like to know!
Also please be reminded we still have one more week before winter break. I will be updating the highlights Sunday as John did. Please check back here periodically as I will be adding more useful tools and tips over the break.
